Crane Spare Parts Australia — Wheels, Wire Rope, Brakes, Hooks

Sorian supplies crane and hoist spare parts nationwide — wheels, wire rope, brake parts, hooks, hoist components, festoon and controls. Every part is specified by a qualified mechanical engineer against your crane's load rating and duty class, designed to AS 1418 and AS 2550, and compatible with all major crane brands. Tell us the machine; we'll specify the right part and quote the lead time.

Why parts specification is an engineering job

A crane spare part is not a commodity. The same physical wheel, hook or rope can be right on one crane and unsafe on another, because the part has to match the crane's load rating, duty class (per AS 1418) and the way the machine is actually used. Like-for-like substitution off a dimension alone is how cranes end up failing their next major inspection. Every parts enquiry we handle is reviewed by a qualified mechanical engineer before we quote, so the replacement is checked against the engineering — not just the part number. For safety-critical components, final sign-off is coordinated through appropriately accredited engineers where the work requires it.

We supply parts for cranes and hoists across Australia, whether or not we supplied the original machine. Most enquiries come from maintenance and reliability teams planning a shutdown, or from sites that have failed an inspection item and need the right replacement fast.

Crane wheels

Crane wheels are the highest-frequency structural replacement on a bridge or gantry crane — tread and flange wear, spalling and bearing failure are routine findings at annual inspection. Wheels are designed under AS 1418.1 for the wheel/rail contact loads, and replaced on a condition basis when tread or flange wear reaches the limits assessed during AS 2550.1 in-service inspection. To specify, we need the wheel diameter, tread profile, bearing bore and the crane's wheel load; we supply single wheels, wheel blocks and matched sets.

Crane wire rope

Wire rope is a wear item with a defined service life. Its use, operation and maintenance are governed by AS 2759, and it is removed from service against published discard criteria — broken wires per lay length, diameter reduction, corrosion, kinks and birdcaging — not on a fixed calendar. We supply rope cut, swaged and terminated to the hoist's drum and reeving, with the correct construction, grade and lay direction for the duty. Replacing rope without matching the original construction changes the way the hoist behaves and can damage the drum and sheaves.

Crane brake parts

Hoist and travel brakes are safety-critical: AS 1418.1 sets the braking-capacity requirements the system has to meet. We supply brake linings, discs, brake coils, thruster units and complete brake assemblies. Linings are replaced at their wear limit, and brakes are re-tested for holding capacity after any brake work — a worn or incorrectly set brake is one of the most common serious findings on overhead cranes.

Crane hooks & lifting components

Hooks, shanks, safety latches, swivels and load blocks are proof-load-tested, certified components. Hooks are removed from service when throat-opening, wear or distortion exceeds the limits checked during AS 2550 inspection. We supply forged, certified replacement hooks and blocks matched to the crane's Working Load Limit — never an uncertified substitute on a lifting path.

Electric chain hoist parts

For electric and manual chain hoists we supply load chain, hook sets, chain guides and sprockets, friction clutches, brakes, contactors and pendant assemblies. Load chain is grade-matched to the hoist and replaced as a set with the guide and sprocket — mixing chain grades or worn sprockets with new chain is a known failure mode. See our national chain hoist page and electric and wire rope hoist page for the full product range.

Festoon, conductor bar & power supply

We supply festoon systems (flat and round cable, trolleys, towing arms and end clamps) and enclosed conductor-bar systems for powering the bridge and hoist along the runway. These are sized to the runway length, travel speed and the crane's electrical load. Worn festoon and arcing conductor bar are frequent causes of intermittent crane faults that get misdiagnosed as control problems.

Pendant & radio remote controls

We supply replacement pendant controllers (typically IP65, with the correct number of motions and e-stop) and radio remote-control systems for overhead, gantry and jib cranes. A radio remote is often the single biggest safety and productivity upgrade on an older pendant-controlled crane, moving the operator out from under the load.

Electrical — contactors, VSDs & panels

Crane control gear — contactors, overloads, variable-speed drives (VSDs), limit switches and control panels — wears and obsoletes faster than the structure it controls. We supply replacement components and can re-engineer an obsolete contactor-based panel to a modern soft-start or VSD control for smoother travel and longer gearbox and brake life.

Slewing bearings

For slewing jib cranes and rotating columns we supply slewing rings and bearings matched to the moment load and rotation duty. These are made-to-order on longer lead times, so they are best planned into a scheduled overhaul rather than left to failure.

Compatible with all major crane brands

We source and supply replacement and compatible parts for cranes and hoists from every major manufacturer — Demag, Konecranes, ABUS, Eilbeck, NQCranes and others — as well as for older, rebadged and unbranded machines. We are not a single-brand dealer. That is the point: we specify the part your crane actually needs on engineering merit, rather than steering you to whatever one OEM catalogue happens to carry. Where a genuine OEM part is the right call, we say so; where a compatible part is equal or better value, we say that too.

Frequently asked questions

How do I identify the right replacement crane part?

The fastest path is the crane's data plate and the original manufacturer's parts list, plus photos of the worn component and any markings stamped on it. Where that information is missing — common on older or rebadged cranes — we identify the part from measurements, duty class and the application. Safety-critical items such as hooks, wire rope and brakes are matched to the load rating and AS 1418 duty, not just the physical dimensions.

Do you supply parts for other manufacturers' cranes?

Yes. We source and supply replacement and compatible parts for cranes and hoists from all major brands — Demag, Konecranes, ABUS, Eilbeck, NQCranes and others. We are not tied to a single brand's catalogue, so we specify the right part for your machine on engineering merit rather than whatever one OEM stocks.

What are typical lead times on crane spare parts?

Common wear items — wheels, brake linings, contactors, pendant controls and standard wire rope — are usually available within days. Made-to-order items such as custom wheels, slewing bearings and long festoon runs depend on the supplier and are quoted per job. We flag the lead time on the quote so you can plan the shutdown.

Is every spare parts quote reviewed by an engineer?

Yes. Every parts enquiry is reviewed by a qualified mechanical engineer before we respond, so a replacement part is checked against the crane's load rating, duty class and the relevant AS 1418 / AS 2550 requirements — not just supplied like-for-like. For safety-critical components, final sign-off is coordinated through appropriately accredited engineers where required.
