Queensland industrial mix and crane needs
Queensland combines two distinct crane markets: the southeast metro (Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Toowoomba) running manufacturing, food processing, defence and aerospace; and the resource sector (Bowen Basin, Galilee Basin, Surat Basin, Mt Isa) running mining maintenance facilities, port handling at Mackay, Townsville and Gladstone, and FIFO maintenance workshops. Each market wants different crane specs.
Brisbane manufacturing typically wants A2-A3 duty class, modest spans, focus on cost. Mining maintenance wants A5-A6 minimum, corrosion protection rated for tropical and coastal exposure, and turnaround timeframes that match shutdown windows. Right-sizing for the actual application matters more than picking from a catalogue.
The full crane range — supplied across Queensland
- Jib cranes Brisbane — freestanding, wall-mounted, articulated. 125 kg to 5 t.
- Overhead bridge cranes Brisbane — single and double-girder EOT, up to 50 t, spans to 28 m.
- Workstation cranes Brisbane — aluminium and steel rail systems, up to 2 t.
- Gantry cranes Brisbane — workshop, portal, mobile and fixed. 500 kg to 6 t.
- Electric chain hoists Brisbane — 125 kg to 20 t.
Compliance — Queensland
Queensland crane regulation is administered through WorkSafe Queensland under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011. Cranes meeting Schedule 5 thresholds (typically over 10 t Maximum Rated Capacity) require formal design registration before installation. Below that threshold, the crane must still be designed, installed and commissioned to AS 1418 with full engineering documentation.
Sorian prepares the design documentation needed for WorkSafe QLD lodgement — engineering calcs, drawings, structural assessment, design certificate — with formal sign-off coordinated through appropriately accredited engineers where required.
Service and inspection across Queensland
Beyond supply and install, we provide ongoing service: annual inspections, 10-yearly major inspections, breakdown response, refurbishment and re-rating. See crane service Brisbane for the full service offering.
Cities and regions we serve in Queensland
Brisbane metro — Acacia Ridge, Wacol, Rocklea, Pinkenba, Eagle Farm, Brendale, Geebung, Crestmead, Hemmant, Lytton.
Regional Queensland — Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Toowoomba (Darling Downs manufacturing), Mackay (mining services), Townsville (defence, port, mining), Cairns (tropical industrial), the Bowen Basin (coal-mining maintenance), and the Surat Basin (gas-sector workshops).
Why Sorian for Queensland businesses
- Engineer-led — every crane design-led by our in-house mechanical engineer (B.E. Mech.), with final sign-off by appropriately accredited engineers where required.
- Standards-aligned — designs built around AS 1418 / AS 2550. WorkSafe QLD lodgement managed.
- Tropical and coastal-rated — corrosion protection specified for QLD's environmental load.
- Mining-grade options — duty class up to A8 for high-cycle maintenance facilities.
- Full service offering — supply, install, commission, certify (via accredited engineers where required), and ongoing inspection.
Built in Australia for Queensland's heaviest duty cycles
For Queensland's mining services around the Bowen Basin, Mackay and Gladstone, the sugar mills, and the fabrication shops at Acacia Ridge and Wacol, Sorian is the maker, not a reseller. We design, manufacture and install the overhead EOT bridge crane itself — single and double-girder to roughly 50 t MRC — engineered to AS 1418 for the actual span, duty class and coastal exposure of your bay.
On a locally designed and built crane the bridge girders and end carriages are Australian plate certified to AS/NZS 3678, not imported. The verified yield of grades like G250 and G350 is a direct input to a high-cycle machine, and imported plate sold under the same grade names does not always meet those properties — a real safety concern on a load-bearing crane. Hoists are supplied from established brands such as Kito and matched to the duty; where the crane needs power across the runway, Conductix Wampfler conductor systems are specified to suit.

Frequently asked questions
Do you supply overhead cranes across Queensland?
Yes — we design, supply and install overhead cranes across all of Queensland including Brisbane metro plus regional QLD: the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Mackay, Townsville, Cairns and the Bowen Basin mining region.
What crane types do you install in Queensland?
All overhead lifting types: jib cranes (125 kg to 5 t), EOT bridge cranes (single and double-girder, up to 50 t), workstation crane systems (up to 2 t), gantry cranes (up to 6 t), and electric chain and wire-rope hoists (125 kg to 250 t).
Are your cranes compliant with WorkSafe Queensland?
Every crane we supply is designed to AS 1418 and AS 2550. We prepare the engineering documentation needed for WorkSafe Queensland design registration where applicable, with sign-off coordinated through appropriately accredited engineers where required.
